Job Title: Senior Mainframe Programmer (Government Contract – Remote/Onsite)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Programmer to support mission-critical government systems. This contract role involves maintaining, enhancing, and modernizing legacy applications while ensuring compliance with federal security and performance standards. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2, along with a strong understanding of public sector workflows and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2
  • Analyze, debug, and optimize batch and online programs for performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with business and IT teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Support legacy system modernization and data migration initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with federal accessibility, security, and audit standards
  • Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and support production deployments
  • Maintain technical documentation and participate in code reviews
  • Provide on-call support and participate in disaster recovery exercises

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship (required for federal contract eligibility)
  • Active Public Trust or ability to obtain clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in mainframe programming
  • Expert-level proficiency in:
    • COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM
    • IBM Utilities (IEBGENER, IDCAMS, ICETOOL, SORT)
    • Debugging tools (e.g., Fault Analyzer, File Manager)
  • Experience with federal or public sector systems preferred
